RADT 100: What signs alert you that a patient is experiencing airway obstruction? Would you give CPR if a patient is choking? Signs of a patient that can alert you of them experiencing an airway obstruction include; agitation, blueish color to the skin, choking, difficulty in breathing, and gasping for air. If a patient is choking you first ask "Are you choking?" If the person cannot speak but nods the head to indicate yes, you need to perform the Heimlich maneuver. It is important to immediately response to this situation and call the code for a respiratory emergency.
